Rolf grew up in an idyllic town in Transylvania. He knew nothing of buildings taller than 10 stories until one fateful day in the mid-80s when an episode of Dallas introduced him to his first skyscrapers. Around this same time, he discovered that the moon was a lighted sphere and not a two-dimensional projection. These two passions—tall buildings and astronomy—eventually took him to Germany, where after a year in the Physics department he switched to Architecture and went on to earn his Ingenieur Architektur diploma from the Technische Universität of Munich. In 2006 he came to the U.S. and Studio Gang for the first time while studying abroad at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Today he calls Chicago, America’s architectural Mecca, his home, and his life and work are full of the skyscrapers he once dreamed of.
